How do I get started with counselling?
You can begin by booking an information session with Linda or Emily. From there, you’ll be able to schedule sessions through the Jane App. At this time, we are offering phone and virtual appointments only, but we hope to add in-person sessions in the near future.
How often should I go to counselling?
The frequency of sessions depends on your needs and preferences. Many clients find it helpful to start with weekly or bi-weekly sessions, and then gradually space them out as they gain tools and confidence. Ultimately, the choice is yours.
What is the difference between play therapy and talk therapy?
Play therapy enters a child’s world through play—their natural way of expressing feelings, working through challenges, and building coping skills. For adults, the world is shaped through words, so talk therapy uses conversation to explore emotions, experiences, and bodily sensations.
What is play therapy?
Play therapy is a child-centered approach that uses play to help children express emotions, process experiences, and develop healthy coping skills. It can support emotional growth, reduce stress and anxiety, and help children better understand their feelings. Play therapy is offered to children 3–12 years olds.
How does play therapy work?
Through play, children can communicate fears, worries, and emotions they may not yet have words for. They may use play to act out challenges, find comfort, or practice problem-solving. Therapists observe and reflect on these interactions, offering insight into the child’s inner world and supporting their progress over time.
What can I expect in my first talk therapy session?
The first session begins by reviewing your intake form. Some clients prefer to use this as a guide and explore it in detail, while others review the basics and dive straight into conversation. Together, you and your counsellor will discuss your goals for therapy and begin exploring them using approaches that fit your needs.
What payment options do I have for sessions?
- E-transfer is currently our primary method of payment, within 24 hours.
- Once payment has been received, you will be emailed a copy of your invoice that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement (if your plan has coverage for Registered Clinical Counselling).
- Sliding scale fees are available in limited spots, with approval from the counsellor.
- Both Linda and Emily are registered providers under the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP).
